Web Services Appointments

A few weeks ago, I announced that we were on the lookout for people to join our Web Services Team. The team and I have been overwhelmed by the number of people with valuable skills who expressed an interest in contributing to the running of our systems. We enjoyed speaking to a large number of those that applied and seeing how much talent exists within our community. Today, I am delighted to welcome three new people to our team. @Ben Esen @David Etheridge All three joi

Marketing Events Update

Hello Everyone,   First of all I hope you are all doing well and enjoying the new year. Loui, Piers, and I decided it might not be a bad idea to give an update of our plans for this year, as it's been over a year and a half since the last announcement! Following our usual break at the beginning of the calendar year, we have moved into full steam ahead with events. We are aiming for two per month, excluding GA events, which Piers will provide an update on in a separate post. An event ev

ATC Training 2022 Q4 + Year Review

There was generally some good feedback from publishing the quarterly stats when I did so last month. If this type of thing is something that you would like to see continue then please keep letting us know (by liking or commenting on this post or reaching out to me another way). Exams Incomplete exams are excluded for clarity: S1 - 26 exams, 23 passed, 3 failed. This is a 62% increase in the number of exams conducted and a 11% decrease in the pass rate. S2 - 5 exams, 5 passed, 0 failed

New Member Services Director

Hi All, So as of today I have taken over the keys for the Member Services department. I want to thank @Lee Roberts for all is hard work and leadership he has given the department in his time as Member Services Director.  My plan for the next week is to get to know the team and work out our plans for the department going forward. Top priority is opening the Visiting and Transfer applications for C1/3 Controllers. A lot of hard work has gone into this by many people over an extended

ATC Training Staff Changes

Hi all, As I'm sure many of you have seen, there have been some staff changes within the ATC Training Department in the last month. @Kye Taylor has stepped down from his role in the Tower Training Group (resignation post). Kye, I know I've said this privately but I'll extend the message (even more) publicly, you've had a huge effect on the training and experience on the network of hundreds of members. The difference you've made during a difficult time cannot be understated, thank you!

New Member Services Director

The DSG is pleased to announce that @John Batten is appointed as the Member Services Director. This recruitment round has been especially challenging as we negotiated this appointment with external parties and have held extensive discussions with the relevant applicants. Ultimately this has meant that our outgoing Member Services Director ( @Lee Roberts ) has remained in role much longer than anticipated in order to transition this function to our new appointment. For this we thank him. John is

Join Our Web Services Team!

The VATSIM UK Web Services Team is made up of a small group of people that maintain and develop the online platforms for the Division. These systems are used by anyone that interacts with us; home members, visitors, staff and the public. We don’t often open applications for people to join the team so if you have ever wanted to get involved in what we do, now is a great time to apply! We did open a similar vacancy in early 2021, but due to some matters outside of our control, we did not appo

Operations Staff Changes

I have good and bad news to announce. Starting with the bad, I regret to announce that @Thomas Mills has resigned as one of our Sector File Coordinators. Thomas was appointed at the same time as Luke as the first 2 sector file coordinators in November 2020. He has given us two whole years of work, 292 commits and just shy of 90,000 line changes on git. We are able to boast such a timely sector file release for most AIRACs in the year, thanks to Tom and Luke's hard work. Those of you that ha

Tower TGI Resignation

Hello all, Unfortunately, I have decided to step down from my role as Tower TGI. Joining the training team nearly two years ago, as TGNC's TGI, I have had the fortunate opportunity to meet some lovely people within the staff and mentoring team. With @Fergus Walsh at TGNC, we made it a mission to progress students through the OBS->S1 stage and during covid, we did just that!  With the TG TWR change, It was very difficult. Shortly after my appointment, I was soloing the training group

Happy New Year - Operations 2023

Another year, another 13 AIRACs gone. This has been a challenging year, with increased workload placed upon the department, after the loss of some experienced staff. With the introduction of the UK Controller Plugin API, some advances in flow control, and our ever-more present role in traffic planning for big events, it becomes hard to keep up with all our day to day roles!   One of our focuses this year has been to try to increase the list of airports that we can support documentation

Media Manager Resignation

Good morning,    Unfortunately I have to announce that @Thomas Greer will be leaving the Marketing Team, as Media Manager.  Tom joined the team in July 2020 to assist with the increased workload that came from our heavy COVID event schedules. Tom played a big part in the weekly management of Midweek Madness and domestic citypair event series. I would like to thank Tom for all of his work over the last few years! Tom has kindly offered to remain part of the Graphics & Rostering

We have not appointed an Aerodrome Operations Coordinator in this round of recruitment. Training Department Christmas Message

Hi all, As we approach Christmas and new year, many of us will be taking a break from the network to spend time with our friends and families. With this training levels will inevitably decrease. Between 19th December and 2nd January (inclusive), Training Department staff will not be sending out the usual availability/session request reminders. All students (ATC or PTD), you are not required to keep your usual session request/availability during this time. Many Training Department

Waiting List Changes

Currently, all ATC Training Waiting Lists are ordered by list join date. Members on a list do not need to remain eligible for a training place while on the list. This means members on a waiting list who leave the network for a long period of time are returning at the top of a waiting list ahead of the members who have remained active within the division. In order to make the waiting lists fair for all members, from 21st December 2022, all members on the S2, S3 and C1 waiting lists will have

Changes to C3 Requirements

With the ever increasing demand for ATC Training in the UK and a relatively stable level of mentoring, we need mentors now more than ever. With this we have decided to add a fixed requirement for a member to have mentored in order to be eligible for a C3. We also acknowledge that many members contribute to our division in different ways and wanted to continue to represent that with the new requirements. The policy has been included below and is effective immediately. This policy has be

Resignation of Aerodrome Operations Coordinator

I unfortunately report the resignation of Chad Byworth as our Aerodrome Operations Coordinator. Chad has held this position for nearly 2 years, having been appointed by Jack in November 2020. In his time he has done phenomenal work for the department having authored nearly 50 procedure change posts, designing our ‘ACBs’ (authoring the majority of them) and reviewing and improving countless documents produced by others. He has further kept many of our other teams up to date with operations c
