CTS Controller Booking Etiquette

Hi all, Following a couple of queries and concerns raised over the last couple of days, I wanted to post a reminder of booking etiquette, particularly for new members who've joined fairly recently and might not be aware of the conventions. The website regulates that "booking shall not be excessive in duration", which is deliberately a rather vague rule (perhaps the main source of confusion). "Excessive" is a difficult term to define, as what may be considered excessive in one case may

January Changes

Hi all, After a few months of testing we are adjusting the way that ATC exams are picked up. Previously our Head Examiner has assigned exams to our examiners, the new method will allow examiners to pick up exams without waiting for them to be assigned. Our aim is to minimise the time students are waiting after being submitted for an exam. To ensure that examiner currency and any potential speculative bias is removed, we have set criteria that governs whether an examiner can  pick up and exa

UK Controller Plugin

Hi all, For a long time, we have wanted to provide our members with more tools that directly aid them in their day to day use of the network. I'm pleased to confirm that today, we are releasing the UK Controller Plugin; a EuroScope plugin for use by controllers in the UK. What Does It Do? Local and General Squawks: If the plugin detects certain conditions that suggest that an aircraft would normally receive a local squawk (e.g. VFR departure), it will assign a local squawk for

- Trevor Hannant

Hi all. After some careful consideration, I’ve tendered my resignation to the DSG.  I’ve accepted a new job which will involve some travel and significant work/study on re-training from my current skills hence leaving me with limited time to provide a firm commitment to the Division.  I’d like to thank not only @Simon Irvine and the rest of the DSG for giving me the opportunity to provide support to the Division from “the inside” but to @Layth Al-Wakil, @Alex Ashley and @Loui Ringer wh

General Manager - ATC Training

Hi all, It is with great pleasure that I would like to welcome Oliver Rhodes into his new role as General Manager - ATC Training. Oliver will be leaving TGNC and TG Heathrow to manage the day to day running of ATC training and will be working closely with myself to help continue its development. This role will allow the day to day running of training and the development of training to be split between 2 people. This will enable the department to run in such a way that day to day activities

Web Services Assistant

Hi all, The Web Services team are starting to make significant head way on the long-promised "new training system" to replace CTS. There is a lot of moving parts with this; a new design for Core, a brand new admin panel and a fairly complex migration of a legacy (12 years +) system into a modern web infrastructure. For that reason, I am very grateful that Andy Ford has taken me up on my offer to rejoin the Web Services team. Having worked on CTS in the past as a developer, his k

P3 Syllabus Update

Hi All, The P3 (VFR Pilot) syllabus has been updated in line with the recently changed P2 and P4. The CTS reports have been adjusted to include each lesson as an item to be marked, as opposed to the old method where each item on the report was criteria to be marked for each lesson. After each lesson is completed general comments about the lesson and information the mentor wishes to provide to the student will be posted in that lesson on the mentoring report. The mentor will then decide

Time to say goodbye

Dear all,   It is with regret that I will be leaving my role as ATC Administrative Manager, with immediate effect.   For the most part, I have thoroughly enjoyed my time within the department. During my time, we have seen a huge improvement which has only been possible with the immense effort put in by each and every person within the department, both past and present. It also wouldn't have been possible without the mentoring team dedicating their time, and students showing a wil

Training Staff Changes (ATC)

Bon Soir! After a few discussions over the past couple of days, @Luke Collister is stepping down from his role of TGI for TG2 due to his availability and other commitments. With that being said, @Lee Roberts will move into the role of TGI for TG2 whilst retaining his current role as TGM - TWR for a short period.  Please join me in thanking Luke for his time as TGI and in wishing Lee Roberts good luck in his new role. VATSIM UK Donations 2018

Good Evening, Thanks to some very generous donations gifted by some of our members over the years, we have been in a very fortunate position in terms of comfortably covering our outlays that we incur whilst running the Division without having to go out to the general membership. We have recently been looking ahead at our anticipated expenditure over the next year and the finances that we will require to continue to provide the services within the Division that we currently do. Training Group 1 Instructor

Dear all, Please join me in welcoming Fraser Cooper back to ATC Training in the role of TG1 TGI. He will be working alongside both Jamie Paine and Nathan Donnelly within the TG. As most of you will be aware, Fraser spent a significant amount of time reviving the OBS-S1 process, starting the familiarisation sessions and reintroducing the 'Gatwick Endorsement' during his time as TGNC TGM. I'm sure his enthusiasm and commitment will also be reflected in his new position. Many thanks Ale

Pilot Training - Q3 2018 Summary

Hi All, 3 down 1 to go! Q3 of 2018 for the PTD has seen some of the highest numbers of mentoring sessions in a long time. This coupled with a noticeable increase in members interaction with the PTD has made these past few months, in my opinion, our most successful quarter to date! ? Q3 Progress: Mentor recruitment (particularly within the P2 & P3 courses) has continued to be very successful, Tom Knowles joined the team in July taking over the role of IFR Flight Instr

It's not the end of the world, but you can see it from here.

Hi All,   It is with great sadness that I must inform you all of my decision to step down from the role of ATC Training Director and away from VATSIM for the foreseeable future. This has not been an easy decision to make, but I believe that it is in the best interests of both myself and the division.   For all you conspiracy theorists out there, I know we all love a good scandal on VATSIM and we love to speculate who got hacked off or which part of collective responsibility got v
