Hi all,

I hope everyone is keeping well! I am pleased to announce that we have some new, (and old), faces joining the training team.

With the recent re-structure of the Training Groups, the ever growing demand on our training, and the high calibre of applicants for the recently advertised roles in training, we took the opportunity to appoint two more instructors than was originally planned.

@Adam Farquharson will be joining the team as a Training Group Instructor for the Tower Training Group.

@James Yuen will be formally re-joining the team as a Training Group Instructor for the Tower Training Group.

@Jack Edwards will be joining the team as a Training Group Instructor for the Approach Training Group.

@Charlie Watson will be re-joining the team as a Training Group Instructor for the Approach Training Group.

In summary,

@Adam Farquharson, @James Yuen and @George Peppard will lead our new Tower Training Group.

@Oliver Gates, @Jack Edwards and @Charlie Watson will lead our new Approach Training Group

Over the past few weeks, whilst recruitment has been taking place, it has been great to see so many people wanting to get involved and to hear so many great ideas from all of the applications.

To name but a few projects currently underway, that I am confident will:

  • Improve the effectiveness of our training,
  • Reduce waiting times,
  • Improve the effectiveness of our students ability to 'self-study',
  • Cater for more styles of learning (reducing the all so common great walls of text),
  • Focus more on the why rather than the what.

We have our S2, S3 and C1 (surprise!) Moodle courses, a new project to introduce structure to the initial parts of a students training, standardisation of Training Material, and many more.

Thank you again, to all of those who applied or expressed interest in joining the team!

Edit: (It's going to take a lot for him to forgive me this time...) @Lee Roberts has moved from his role of Training Group Instructor to his new role as a Division Instructor. Lee will be joining the team of DIs with his knowledge and experience of managing TG2 and widespread mentoring across all ratings and I am sure will be a great addition to the team.

Congratulations to all four new appointees, and a massive thanks to Lee for his time at the helm of TG2 - I have no doubt you will make an excellent Division Instructor.

Looking forward to seeing the projects mentioned come to fruition, and an acknowledgement that something needs to be done about training place waiting list times.

Thanks @Lee Roberts for the extraordinary work you have done in the past year or so for TG2 since my departure, although things have slowed down a bit the high quality of students in the division at all levels remains something to be proud of and I wish all the new Instructors the best in maintaining this and hopefully getting the system back up to speed.

I look forward to seeing how the idea of a Central Training System finally in full function pans out and hope everything works out well for all involved!

Pleasure working with @Lee Roberts in TG2 - there is no doubt that his dedication has lead to a majority of the good progress made in the TG. An excellent appointment to DI.

Some good new faces joining the team - welcome!

To quote @James Yuen: ”Time to get to work (again)”

time to cause some damage again, right? @Charlie Watson

Indeed, damage to the training list length of course?
