Hi all!

To provide an educational environment for the Road to Ronaldsway event, Pilot Training is hosting a group flight which is open to all members. As such, we strongly encourage any P1 students and anyone who is wanting to get into VFR flying to join along!

If you are interested in flying along or just watching some screenshares, join us in the #group-flight-1 Discord channel for a 1320z departure, where a few of our mentors will be present to assist you in your flight.

  • Aerodrome: EGNH - EGNL - EGNS
  • Date and Time: 24 September, Departing around 1320z
  • Requested ATC: None more than event.
  • Requests or Extra Info: None.

A ready-to-complete PLOG is available via this link, as well as a screenshot of the route.

Briefing

Completing this flight in the real-world would pose some unique challenges, namely the threats associated with flying a single engine piston aircraft over 35nm of water. As such, I've selected a cruise level of FL45 to give sufficient gliding distance to minimize the risk.

The leg between EGNL and EGNS is above the transition altitude of 3000ft (for both EGNS and the standard for the UK). As such, this leg must be flown using standard pressure (1013hPa).

The route intends for a touch and go at Walney (EGNL).

Aircraft flying between EGNH and EGNL are encouraged to contact Warton Radar (129.525) for a Lower Airspace Radar Service.

For the leg between EGNL and EGNS, pilots are asked to contact Ronaldsway Radar (120.850) at least 10nm before entering Ronaldsway controlled airspace. This also provides an opportunity to pick up a Lower Airspace Radar Service for crossing the large stretch of water.

For the purposes of this flight, D406 is assumed to not be active. As such, it can be ignored when flying between EGNL and EGNS.
