  1. What's new in this club
  2. Thanks to all the controllers today (and the other GA traffic). It was great to fly GA with ATC focused on that for a change.
  3. Inverness airport confuses me. It shows as uncontrolled airspace (class G) but it has Tower (EGPE_TWR) and Radar (EGPE_APP), not Information (EGPE_I_TWR) and not Radio (EGPE_R_TWR). So do you need clearance to take off/land there?
  4. VATSIM UK is pleased to announce it's second instalment of the VFR events with Offload to Orkney. Join us in your rusty Cessna as we staff up Kirkwall, Wick and Inverness on the 15th October between 1300-1500z as we Offload to Orkney. Suggested Routes: Inverness-Wick: Leave the zone via Rosemarkie to then Follow the coast northbound until you reach Tarbat Ness Lighthouse, Enter a heading of 360* until you reach Lothbeg Point. Then follow the coast north-east until you reach Thrumster Masts. Enter Wick via the Thrumster Masts VRP. You may either transit the zone or do some circuits at Wick. Wick-Kirkwall: Leave the zone via Keiss village, Follow the coast until you see Duncansby Head Lighthouse, Route north-east bound, until Pentland Skerries Lighthouse, Route northbound until you reach the coast, Follow the coast to enter Kirkwall via Lambholm Island VRP. All routes can be done in reverse order! We will endeavour to staff Inverness Radar, Wick Radar and Kirkwall Radar - feel free to make the most of the available ATC to request a UKFIS as required. For newer pilots or for pilots unfamiliar with UKFIS, please see the document linked here for further guidance, or comment below and a member of our community will be able to assist with any questions.
  5. Hi all! To provide an educational environment for the Road to Ronaldsway event, Pilot Training is hosting a group flight which is open to all members. As such, we strongly encourage any P1 students and anyone who is wanting to get into VFR flying to join along! If you are interested in flying along or just watching some screenshares, join us in the #group-flight-1 Discord channel for a 1320z departure, where a few of our mentors will be present to assist you in your flight. Aerodrome: EGNH - EGNL - EGNS Date and Time: 24 September, Departing around 1320z Requested ATC: None more than event. Requests or Extra Info: None. Documentation A ready-to-complete PLOG is available via this link, as well as a screenshot of the route. Briefing Completing this flight in the real-world would pose some unique challenges, namely the threats associated with flying a single engine piston aircraft over 35nm of water. As such, I've selected a cruise level of FL45 to give sufficient gliding distance to minimize the risk. The leg between EGNL and EGNS is above the transition altitude of 3000ft (for both EGNS and the standard for the UK). As such, this leg must be flown using standard pressure (1013hPa). The route intends for a touch and go at Walney (EGNL). Aircraft flying between EGNH and EGNL are encouraged to contact Warton Radar (129.525) for a Lower Airspace Radar Service. For the leg between EGNL and EGNS, pilots are asked to contact Ronaldsway Radar (120.850) at least 10nm before entering Ronaldsway controlled airspace. This also provides an opportunity to pick up a Lower Airspace Radar Service for crossing the large stretch of water. For the purposes of this flight, D406 is assumed to not be active. As such, it can be ignored when flying between EGNL and EGNS.
  6. It's been a while, but we've recently expanded our team and we want to get back to running regular GA events, especially now we have even more aircraft options in MSFS! I've been having a right blast flying the A2A Comanche, and being able to navigate using the ground makes a nice change after coming from P3D 😛
  7. Thank you - always good to see GA being promoted!
  8. VATSIM UK is pleased to announce its first GA event in over a year, and to celebrate the return of this event series we are pleased to announce Road To Ronaldsway. Join us on the 24th of September in your trusty kite as we staff up Hawarden, Liverpool, Blackpool to take you on the Road to Ronaldsway! ATC will be online from 1300-1500z for you to enjoy, we hope to see you there. Suggested Routes: Hawarden to Isle of Man - Depart Hawarden, obtain clearance to transit Liverpool via the Neston and Mersey Lanes exiting via Seaforth Dock, follow the coast up to Blackpool remaining below 3500ft until clear of the Manchester TMA. Once abeam Blackpool, turn left onto a track of 290 degrees to reach the Isle of Man. Hawarden to Isle of Man (direct) - After departing Hawarden route via Flint Bridge, following the River Dee to remain under the Liverpool CTA and then track direct to the Isle of Man. Hawarden to Blackpool - Same as Hawarden to Isle of Man but terminating at Blackpool. Alternatively, transit over Liverpool to leave via Kirkby then route towards Blackpool. Any of the above routes but in reverse. We are endeavouring to staff Liverpool Radar, Warton LARS and Ronaldsway Radar - feel free to make the most of the available ATC to request a UKFIS as required. For newer pilots or for pilots unfamiliar with UKFIS, please see the document linked here for further guidance, or comment below and a member of our community will be able to assist with any questions.

    Saturday Le Mans Fly In

So the "nice weather" is turning into a bit of a thunderstorm fest. Suspect we'll end up using custom weather to clear the storms (remember, real world temp/pressure/winds are required and I think we'll be OK with real world cloud bases). Route basically as described. 3500 over the channel, 2500 once in France. I'll be in group-flight-1 in Discord from ~1145Z tomorrow LeMans.pdf
  10. Hi, It's been a long time since we had a VFR group flight anywhere. This weekend is the Le Mans 24 and the weather's looking nice and I seem to recall there's a fair overlap between those on previous VFR group flights and those that like motor racing so it seemed like a good excuse for a fly in. Anyone interested therefore in a flight from Headcorn (EGKH) to Le Mans (LFRM) Saturday afternoon. If we left 1200Z we'd arrive around 1400Z (crusing 125 TAS) which should be just in time for the start. Still working on a route but thinking roughly DVR - Cap Gris Nez - LFAT - DPE - LGL Graham
