If you’re a student training in one of our programmes - pilot or ATC - you will not be required to have a session request or availability entered into the CT

Training Department

Hi all, Over the past few months there has been a fair amount of changes brewing in the background regarding staff in the Training Department. Rather than cover the forum in a blanket of forums posts, it made more sense to wait until the final changes had been finalised - so here we go! ATC Training: Recently with the launch of our Member Services Department we have now removed the role of Training Group Manager from our staff structure, as a result of this work being carried out

VATSIM UK Live! 2022

VATSIM UK Live! Is pleased to announce that our event will return on the weekend of 13th & 14th August 2022 at Conference Aston in Birmingham. VATSIM UK Live! is an in person event - where members of the network join together to control and fly from the same room for two days.   We understand that this is at short notice, but working out how to best run an in-person event (including logistics, insurances etc.) is a challenge as we move out of the pandemic. As organisers, we wanted

But what I can do, is reflect upon the amazing work that you have all made possible through your contributions as pilots, students, mentors, instructors, chief tea maker, you name it and I guarantee you will have helped somewhere.   ATC Training We saw the beginning of the end for our Central Tr

GDPR - What It Means For You

Unless you've been living under a rock, you will have heard of the GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation) that comes into effect on May 25th. What you may not know is what it means, how it may affect you and why organisations of all sizes are flooding your inbox with "please click here to say we can contact you" links... I don't study the law... but what is GDPR? I don't either so I'll give you the key points! GDPR... is the biggest shake up to data protection regulations in aro

Web Department Changes

Folks I am making some changes to the Web Department.  As you know web has been working as two teams over the past 14 months.  This has really had its benefits, for example, the expansion of CORE and the introduction of Flight Training Exercises where the two teams worked hand in hand in launching these. Over the next 12 months, we will be launching a new website, start the migration of CTS into CORE as well as the rollout of a new ATC plugin.  With this in mind, I have decided to brin

Training Department Q2 Review

Six months down; six to go! Firstly, to all those who’ve had their head glued to a textbook for the past few months, welcome back! And to those of us who’ve had to listen to the perpetual sighs of students... hallelujah, it's over! Here’s what the Training Department has been up to over the past three months: April: With several members of the team focusing on academic exams, things were reasonably quiet on the ATC side of the fence.  Pilot Training led most of the development

Training Department Q3 2020

Evening all! Please see a summary of our progress and achievements throughout the third quarter of this year! ATC Training The quarter began with a change to our division policy clarifying the conditions and use of Solo Validations for our students in training. This has allowed our area students to practise on underlying sectors ensuring that they can use their 90-day solo enroute validation (SEV) to tailor their network time to the positions which will most benefit them. Training Department Christmas Message

Good evening! It's that time again! Christmas is coming up, and as we all take some time off, activity in the training system and on the network itself will inevitably reduce. Before I break down different areas of the department, I would like to take a moment to share my appreciation towards every person which makes the clock tick in marketing, the Graphics, Livestreaming and Rostering teams all make this possible, so it is now time to follow in the footsteps of training and take a break

Discord General Chat Changes

Last Sunday we announced the removal of the ‘general-chat’ channel within Discord. Clearly this was an emotive subject for many of our members, and we pledged to thoroughly review this decision before committing to making changes. It was pointed out by many, and evident on review, that the brevity of the announcement and lack of clear explanation for this action was a mistake, and I would like to apologise for the confusion this has caused. The purpose of this post is to update you all on our pl

Resignation - Dave Woodward

Good Evening All,   It is with sadness that I announce Dave Woodward’s departure from the VATSIM UK DSG and staff team effective immediately. Dave joined our team at the beginning of this year as Training Group Instructor for TG Enroute and, during his tenure, has been working hard to supervise the training of our C1 students. In stark contrast to this time last year, our C1 waiting lists currently stands at just 12 members, a large part of which is down to the effort which Dave has in
