VATSIM UK is pleased to announce it's second instalment of the VFR events with Offload to Orkney.

Join us in your rusty Cessna as we staff up Kirkwall, Wick and Inverness on the 15th October between 1300-1500z as we Offload to Orkney.

Suggested Routes:

Inverness-Wick:

  • Leave the zone via Rosemarkie to then
  • Follow the coast northbound until you reach Tarbat Ness Lighthouse,
  • Enter a heading of 360* until you reach Lothbeg Point.
  • Then follow the coast north-east until you reach Thrumster Masts.
  • Enter Wick via the Thrumster Masts VRP. You may either transit the zone or do some circuits at Wick.

Wick-Kirkwall:

  • Leave the zone via Keiss village,
  • Follow the coast until you see Duncansby Head Lighthouse,
  • Route north-east bound, until Pentland Skerries Lighthouse,

All routes can be done in reverse order!

We will endeavour to staff Inverness Radar, Wick Radar and Kirkwall Radar - feel free to make the most of the available ATC to request a UKFIS as required.

For newer pilots or for pilots unfamiliar with UKFIS, please see the document linked here for further guidance, or comment below and a member of our community will be able to assist with any questions.

Inverness airport confuses me. It shows as uncontrolled airspace (class G) but it has Tower (EGPE_TWR) and Radar (EGPE_APP), not Information (EGPE_I_TWR) and not Radio (EGPE_R_TWR). So do you need clearance to take off/land there?
