Emotions - to be worn on sleeves

Good evening all

In preparation for the latest forum upgrade #shiny you may have noticed some older features being removed and some newer ones appearing.  One of the more noticeable appearances is the ability now to articulate your feeling about a post using emoticons.  This has now fully replaced the previous binary Like/Dislike system which didn't always really allow a good method of what you actually thought.

So far we have 5 'emotions'  to choose from, these will increase over time to include a few more - and on special occasions throughout the year, some bespoke versions B)

We are currently making necessary changes to accommodate a number of other new features better to display information and hopefully therefore improve your experience of using the forum.  These will be announced as they are ready to be launched so you can have a nosy and feedback your thoughts to us.

Many thanks
Barrie

I'd up vote your post Barrie because the emojis is a good idea, but never mind!

I'll give this to you instead! ;)

Aw fanks - Up-voting is one of the features to be implemented (although as mine is the original post not sure it's going to get much higher ;) ) - we need to make changes to the structure of some of the channels before we can unleash it properly across the entire platform.

The flexibility of emotions will be better than an  up vote or down vote.

All jolly exciting stuff! Will this new software upgrade include the restoration of a full search facility?

It's not something that stood out in the features list but I will look in to this functionality.

#feature

That should now be resolved - let us know if you spot anything else.

Thanks. Twas a bit awkward at FSC coming up with a plausible reason why a new member couldn't find the answers to all his questions even though I knew they were there!

Full search was returned 12 months ago.

I could give you a lengthy example from that new member I spoke to but I know it wouldn't achieve anything. Suffice to say I might debate the word "full", certainly from the perspective of a new member.

Where's the best place to raise a bug for this on here as the indexing is clearly missing content:

https://community.vatsim.uk/search/?q="agreed levels"&sortby=relevancy

This search should return this topic but doesn't:

Unless Archived topics are not indexed by choice in which case I'd suggest that, as a policy, is reviewed.

Well as I've told you before, if you continue to refuse to tell us the details of errors these "new members" you talk to face, nobody can fix anything. But I guess telling you that won't change anything...

Web - Neil and/or Calum can check the settings to see why that post isn't being indexed.

I can't remember the intricacies, but I removed any time restriction on searches for posts and topics before I left . IPB also removed their support for any decent search engines, so their stock search isn't amazing.

Thanks Ant, will stick a ticket in.

Strange that they've done that, at a time when other forum software suppliers are making sure they have some level of support for others

I see from IPB's own forum there's cries of issues with the built in search but that the next release will have some fixes for it.  Hopefully your work and these will see an improvement here.

Anyway, back to topic - I can't see emotions on here to give you a like etc...  ;)
