Home is where the heart is...
Dear All
From 00:01z Thursday 15th December, you will be asked if you would like to select one of 8 region-based communities from the following list:
Scotland | Northern Ireland | Northern | Wales | Midlands | East Anglia | South West | South East
Members do not have to join a community in which the facility they are training at is based. There may however be benefit for the member to choose the community in which the majority of their day-to-day VATSIM activity (flying/controlling) takes place.
Important - Please note:
- Members will not be permitted to change (after their initial selection) their region-based community within the first 6 months of 2017;
- Thereafter, members will be able to change region-based communities twice within any 12 month period with at least 90 days between changes.
Why am I being asked to choose a region-based community now?
We are giving every member the opportunity to join a region-based community in advance of the 1st January 2017 when the UK systems will begin collecting the statistics that will be used ultimately to compile the metrics for the awards and recognition scheme. This process may take up to 6 months but it is hoped that this is completed soon after the first quarter.
Why am I not permitted to change my region-based community in the first 6 months of 2017?
We intend retrospectively to instigate the appropriate allocation of 'points' to each individual once we have compiled all of the stats and evolve the metrics for the award and recognition scheme. These will be back dated to the start of 2017, therefore if members move through this process it will slant the statistics and may cause a loss of award/recognition.
Once the system is launched in full, members will be permitted to change their region-based community when the following criteria are both met:
- Members will be able to change region-based communities no more than twice within any 12 month period
- At least 90 days must have elapsed since the last change.
I don't want to join a region-based community
You will not be forced to join any of the region-based communities, you will always remain part of the wider United Kingdom community. Should you change your mind in the future, you will be able to select a region-based community via the UK web systems.
Many thanks
Barrie
