Deferred ATC Training Places

Hi all,

So that we can ensure fairness for newer students, we recently introduced a two year limit for training place deferrals, set-out in section 4.6 of our ATC Training Handbook. Every student with a deferred place has been informed of this by email - if you expect to be on a deferred list and haven't received an email, please get in touch with the Member Services team.

If you deferred your place less than two years ago, you will have up to two years from the date that you deferred your place to restart training. The email which you received this afternoon will inform you of this date.

If you deferred your place more than two years ago, you will have two weeks from today (up until Saturday 3rd October) to reply to the email so that we can set-up with you a plan to restart training.

Please note that training place offers are dependent upon capacity and eligibility as set-out in section 4 of the ATC Training Handbook.

Why was this policy changed?

Training place deferrals are an important way to allow members flexibility in their training. There have been a few cases recently, however, where members have returned after many years away, and have received a place ahead of newer, more active members.

There is a balance, therefore, between ensuring that members have the flexibility to defer their place when necessary, and ensuring fairness in the waiting lists. We believe that a two year limit achieves this.

We'll be looking over the next few months at ensuring fairness in the same way for members returning after a period of inactivity.

As always, thanks to everybody for your teaching and learning efforts!
