C1 Waiting List

Hi all,

It seems there's been a range of information flying around on how the C1 Waiting List works.

To clarify, in order to be eligible for a C1 place, you must have:

  • Reached the top of the C1 waiting list;
  • 12 hours on UK ATC positions in the three months prior to a place being offered;
  • At least 10 hours post-S3 on each of the main APP positions in the sector on which you wish to train:
    • LON_S - LL, KK, THAMES, SOLENT;
    • LON_C - ESSEX, BB, NX;
    • LON_N - CC, GP, NM, NT;
    • SCO - PF, PH, PD, AA.

If you hold an S3 and would like to join the C1 waiting list, please open a ticket to the ATC Training help topic on the helpdesk. You will not be added automatically (though this has happened in the past, it carries the risk that S3 passes may be accidentally missed, leading to you losing out on your place). Those who are currently on the waiting list have received an email - if you have not received such an email and expect to be on the C1 waiting list, please open a ticket to let us know.

When a place becomes available, the person at the top of the C1 waiting list will be offered it on a sector for which they meet the hour requirements, irrespective of where the previous student was training.

For example, if William Collins passed his exam on LON_S and Elizabeth Bennet is at the top of the C1 list, meeting the hour requirements only for LON_C, she would be offered William's place but on LON_C, not LON_S. If Elizabeth were to meet the hour requirements for multiple sectors, she would generally be offered the choice of her preferred sector.

Hopefully this clears up any confusion - please shout if you have any questions or if anything's not quite clear!

Are you put on the waiting list in order of expression of interest or when you passed your S3?

Now in order of expression of interest, bringing C1 in-line with every other waiting list. ?

As an aside, when systems advance suitably for the functionality to be available, I would like to reach a point where - at all levels - you can opt to be automatically added to a waiting list, saving the tickets and admin. This is still quite a way into the future, however, so for now tickets remain the way to go!

So @Oliver Rhodes the 12 hours in last three months, Does it have to be individual positions i.e. 12 hours on LL_APP, KK_APP or is it 12 hours for all them combined?

It can be for any UK ATC position - it's just a requirement to ensure that those getting training places are active on the network. ?

Are there, out of interest, any hour requirements for maintaining an area position? From experience, good progression on CTR comes more easily with regular APP practice!

Not formally, no. I would hope that C1 students in particular, most of whom will be mentors at other 'levels' anyway, would do this anyway. If this were to be an issue, however, TGIs are empowered to help.
