Get Involved: CT S3 Moodle Course

All,

The ATC Training Department is looking for contributors to the ongoing development of our online self-learning moodle courses. The ultimate goal behind these courses is to shift the responsibility of learning towards the student, reducing the amount of theory that has to be explicitly taught in mentoring sessions. In turn, this will reduce the amount of mentoring sessions required to obtain a rating or endorsement by better preparing students for the situations that they will encounter. It is envisioned that students will be required to complete these courses before receiving practical training on the network. This has already proven very successful at the OBS-S1 level, as well as for Heathrow and Military.

At this time, we are looking for volunteers to contribute content to the S3 (APP) course, which will form the core of self-learning for APP students as we move towards the Central Training model. Members who wish to contribute must meet the following requirements:

  • Must be a UK home member
  • Must hold at least an S3 rating

Members are free to contribute as much or as little as they feel able to and the department will be grateful for any contributions made. If you are interested in contributing, please submit a ticket to ATC Training at https://helpdesk.vatsim.uk, stating if you have any preferred subjects out of the following:

  • Radiotelephony
  • Coordination and Releases
  • Separation and ATS Surveillance Systems
  • STARs and Holding
  • UK Flight Information Services
  • Weather and Altimetry
  • Approach Types and Missed Approaches
  • Vectoring Techniques (INT and FIN)
  • Speed Control
  • Wake Vortex Separation
  • VFR Handling
  • ATS Surveillance Systems + Identification, Validation and Verification
  • Split Positions

Subject to interest and the volume of course content, a second Moodle course of advanced concepts or topics not widely used on VATSIM (such as procedural control) may also be created.

Thanks! :)

Wish I could help, shame you need to be an S3 when some of the students are just as current with some of the theory aspects :(

When writing these, please look at my S2-S3 progression guides and other material as I suspect quite a few of these sections could be a simple copy and paste job from them!

Good luck,
