It has been removed throughout the forum. You can no longer down vote posts anymore, it was seen as a pointless button which only really started arguments on here.

Strange how when a post about a new "Deputy Division Director" gets 3 down votes they remove the down votes as a whole, sounds very coincidental to me

As per the DSG minutes from 22nd of June, we were reviewing whether to get rid of the negative reputation button on the forum.

If you disagree with this then you can start a new thread about your concerns about that particular decision.  This is not the thread for that.

Well if they disagree so much, they can go and make another thread (as Simon has said) and explain their opinion with sources to back up their claims. Hitting a "dislike" button instead of giving a well thought-out and structured argument is such a cop out.

Well, in that case, shouldn't the 'like' button be removed seeing as people aren't giving a reason for their likes?

Stop Hijacking this thread. What you have posted here is nothing about the announcement Simon has made. Any issues, start a separate thread or submit your concerns as a ticket.

A subtle difference.

The "dislike" button can (and has) cause a very negative and hostile atmosphere, which has turned away new members because they post something on the forum and everyone has just negative rep'd them. In my opinion, if you're going to put someone down, then you've gotta have a darn good reason for it. In short, getting rid of the button stops people just making everything negative with no justification and no discussion. If someone doesn't like something posted on the forum, especially with regards to staff posts - we actually want to know what exactly you don't agree with and why. If you don't at least give us that much, how can you ever expect your opinion to be heard.

The "like" button, doesn't create this atmosphere and it is equally a fair assumption that if "like" is pressed, that the person has no quarrels with anything that was posted. I would expect (as I do myself) anyone who has a caveat to their "like" to post it so that proper discussion can be had.

This is a forum - a meeting or medium where ideas and views on a particular issue can be exchanged. This is not Facebook.

In any case, I shall derail this news item no longer. If people want to discuss the changes, then I suggest you create a new thread for it.
