S1 Aerodrome Familiarisation Sessions

Hi folks,

We are excited to announce a new training opportunity for S1 members. Any member within VATSIM UK who holds an S1 rating will now be able to request Ground and Delivery aerodrome familiarisation sessions. 

These sessions are run by our ‘experienced’ S1 members. These members have been trained to offer mentoring sessions both on Ground and Delivery. We are now offering further training for both EGKK - London Gatwick and EGCC – Manchester.

What will the mentoring sessions include?

Delivery Training (2x Sessions):

  • Aerodrome specific SID restrictions.
  • Common destinations and agreed levels.
  • Semi-circular rule.
  • Non-Standard departures and associated coordination.
  • Slot Times. (CTOT / TOBT / AOBT)
  • ‘Planning’ position during events.
  • How to manage SLOTS.
  • Other flow management techniques.

Ground Training (2x Sessions):

  • Our mentors will observe you control for 1 hour on the network.
  • After logging off, the mentor will discuss with you any notes they have made.
  • Some theory topics will also be covered, including; LVP’s / METARs / Runway Selection.


Each student will be entitled to two Delivery and two Ground sessions on their selected training aerodrome. Students will be enrolled onto the relevant ADC Moodle course after session request rights have been granted.

We have been testing these sessions over the past month and have proven to be a great success. We are now pleased to be offering these sessions to the entire division.

Until further notice, the 2 session restriction will cease. If you are interested in sessions/have already had sessions and would like some more, please submit a ticket via the Helpdesk.
