Vacancy - Marketing Director

Role Description

The Marketing Department is responsible for all public-facing media and the planning of events in our Division. The Marketing Director is a position appointed to the Division Staff Group, with the primary responsibility of providing strategic direction to the Marketing Department. As this position frequently serves as the first point of contact with Divisions and Subdivisions across the world, excellent interpersonal skills and a good standard of written English is essential for the role.

Responsibilities

The Marketing Director is responsible for:

  • Timely planning and preparation of events, curating an interesting and diverse events calendar to showcase the Division.
  • Reviewing the event calendar and ensuring our events are designed to be suitable for the current demand and availability of controllers
  • Ensuring the Division maintains an active presence on social media, including the advertisements of events, procedure changes, and vacancies to our members.
  • Managing internal volunteer teams such as our graphics, video projects and rostering/event teams..
  • Maintaining UK relationships with Divisions and Subdivisions across VATSIM excluding responsibilities that fall specifically to another Department.
  • Maintaining and developing department procedures, and ensuring that these procedures are accurately followed by the department.
  • Attending DSG meetings and providing quarterly updates to the EMEA region.

Requirements

The following characteristic are essential for this role, and therefore the successful candidate must:

  • Be a full VATSIM UK Division home member in good standing.
  • Be able to commit to a minimum of 2 years to the role.
  • Be able to commit, on average, at least 7 hours per week to this role, maintaining an active presence in discord, other VATSIM systems and social media with the understanding that this number may be higher in the weeks preceding our largest events.
  • Possess excellent communication and time management skills to ensure event planning runs to schedule and the relevant stakeholders are kept informed. 
  • Possess a positive, proactive attitude to learning and developing within the role.
  • Possess a good standard of written English.

In addition, the following characteristics are useful to the role, however not deemed essential. The successful candidate may:

  • Hold previous experience in event planning and marketing. This could be either in or outside of VATSIM.
  • Hold previous experience in leading and managing a small volunteer group.
  • Have contributed to the UK’s Marketing teams in the past via rostering, graphics, livestreaming, or video projects teams.
