Minor Changes to Heathrow Endorsements

Hello everyone,

A couple of changes I wanted to bring to your attention regarding Heathrow endorsements.

Recency Requirements for Endorsement eligibility

The reason behind the change to these requirements is to conform with division-wide recency for training places while also promoting Heathrow recency before progressing to the next endorsement stage.

To be eligible for a training place, you need to meet the following criteria.

EGLL GMC Endorsement - At least 12 hours on UK ATC positions in a rolling 3 month period.
EGLL AIR Endorsement - At least 12 hours on UK ATC positions in a rolling 3 month period, of which at least 5 hours shall be on EGLL_GND or EGLL_DEL positions.
EGLL APC Endorsement - At least 12 hours on UK ATC positions in a rolling 3 month period, of which at least 5 hours shall be on EGLL_TWR positions.

If you do not meet the criteria above, you will see you are not eligible for a training position and a member below you who meets the recency requirements may be offered a training place.

Minor Changes to the Heathrow Endorsement Process

Please see here the new Heathrow Endorsement information page and the slightly revised Heathrow Endorsement Process.

  1. Complete the Moodle course for the endorsement you are requesting. All members have access to the Heathrow Moodle courses
    • Heathrow Ground / Delivery here
    • Heathrow Tower here
    • Heathrow Approach here
  2. Open a ticket at the VATSIM UK helpdesk (here) to request access to the theory exam.
  3. Upon completion of the theory exam, reopen existing ticket to advise Heathrow staff of your exam pass. (Should you fail the exam, a cooldown period of 7 days is applied automatically)
  4. You will be added to the waiting list for the applicable endorsement. You can monitor you training place position here
You must maintain eligibility in order to be considered for a training place. See above for eligibility requirements.
  5. When available, a training place will be offered.
  6. Permissions given to request practical training. A session request and availability are required in order to keep your training place.

VATUK Core Waiting Lists

As per the rest of the division, Heathrow endorsement waiting lists are being moved to the core waiting list system.
Students are added to the waiting list in order of when theory exam is complete, not when access to the theory exam is requested.
If eligible for an endorsement and you have followed the steps above, you will be able to see your position on the waiting list here - https://www.vatsim.uk/mship/waiting-lists

The ATC Training Handbook will be updated in due course to reflect the above recency requirements.

Any questions, please find me on Discord.

Many Thanks,

The Moodle course states that S2 is the minimum rating - is that still the case?

Yes, an S2 is the minimum rating you need to gain a Heathrow Endorsement.

London Heathrow (EGLL) is the only airfield in VATSIM UK that has been designated as a major aerodrome under the regulations set out in VATSIM's Global Ratings Policy. Members rated S2 or higher may undertake a number of special endorsements to be allowed to control Heathrow positions up to and including their permanent controller rating.
