Changes to C3 Requirements

With the ever increasing demand for ATC Training in the UK and a relatively stable level of mentoring, we need mentors now more than ever. With this we have decided to add a fixed requirement for a member to have mentored in order to be eligible for a C3.

We also acknowledge that many members contribute to our division in different ways and wanted to continue to represent that with the new requirements.

The policy has been included below and is effective immediately. This policy has been updated in Version 1.5 of the ATC Training Handbook (released 21/11/2022)

In order to be eligible for a C3, members must:

  • Be a member in good standing;
  • Have no substantial negative feedback in the last 6 months;
  • Have held a C1 rating for at least one year;
  • Have at least 300 hours on UK CTR and/or FSS positions post-C1 [*];
  • Mentored at least 150 hours in UK ATC mentoring sessions at any level except Enroute;
  • Mentored at least 50 hours in UK ATC Enroute mentoring sessions.

Members are also required to have an additional 250 ‘credits’. These credits can be earned as follows:

  • 1 credit for each additional hour (above the minimum stated above) controlling UK CTR and/or FSS positions post-C1 [*];
  • 5 credits for each additional hour in UK ATC Enroute mentoring sessions;
  • 50 credits for each year holding a UK Staff position [*].

Note: In all cases, for members who have transferred a C1 rating from other divisions, ‘post-C1’ is to mean ‘after being validated to C1’ in the UK.

Those who meet the required criteria should request their rating upgrade through a ticket to the ‘ATC Training’ help topic, via the helpdesk. For criteria marked [*], members are expected to submit details in their ticket; all other criteria will be verified by a member of the ATC Training team.

Thanks,
Adam
