Training Group Restructure

Hi all,

Around 300 million years ago, the movements of the Earth's tectonic plates saw the continents combine to form the Pangaean supercontinent. It lasted for roughly 100 million years, before fragmenting to form the continents and oceans we see today. The plates keep moving; approximately 250 million years from now, it's likely that the continents will once again coalesce to form a new supercontinent - Pangaea Ultima.

In January 2017, our division's Regional Training Schemes - RTSs - were combined to form a new series of Training Groups - TGs - which have served us well for the last three years. The sands of time have shifted, and therefore so must we. This week, working closely with the web team, we will be restructuring TG1 & TG2 into a Tower Training Group and an Approach Training Group, with instructors dedicated to each rating programme.

This move towards a more linear structure will allow our mentors to operate across different positions more easily, and will significantly simplify administration.

If you are a student currently training for your S2 or S3 rating:

  • The only change for you will be a wider mentoring team and (potentially) different instructors leading your training.

If you are a mentor for S2 and/or S3 students:

  • You may have different instructors who manage and support your teaching.
  • All of your current mentoring permissions will not change.

If you are a member wanting to become a mentor:

  • Use the normal channels via the helpdesk to express your interest in becoming a TWR or APP mentor.

If you are a prospective student already on the TWR or APP waiting:

  • You need to do.... nothing!

We are taking this opportunity to make a small amendment to the naming of our other Training Groups, which will be known as the:

  • New Controller Training Group,
  • Tower Training Group,
  • Approach Training Group,
  • Enroute Training Group,
  • Heathrow Training Group.

Over the course of this week our Central Training System, Forum and Website will be updated to reflect these changes.

I will post an update later on this week announcing some new faces that will be joining the team and with more details regarding the above changes!

Thanks,

Dan ✈️

Why not just outsource it to Capita and be done with it?

@Daniel Crookes Were you intending to announce this today or did Calum accidentally spill the beans 3 hours ago?

It was a precisely planned launch ?

One thing, if we've sent in a request to join TG1 or TG2 for S2 training for the waiting list, will we just be put on the waiting list for the TG Tower training group or will we need to resend in a ticket requesting under the new name?

The waiting lists were merged some time ago now, so you won't need to place another ticket, as your name will already be on that.

I’m a returning S2, wanting some refresher trainings. What’s the best way to get this?

Hey Andrew, if you drop any our our TGIs a message then we can try and arrange for you to sit in on some mentoring session with our current students. You can message them on slack, TeamSpeak or the helpdesk!
