Training Department

Hi all,

Over the past few months there has been a fair amount of changes brewing in the background regarding staff in the Training Department. Rather than cover the forum in a blanket of forums posts, it made more sense to wait until the final changes had been finalised - so here we go!

ATC Training:

Recently with the launch of our Member Services Department we have now removed the role of Training Group Manager from our staff structure, as a result of this work being carried out by the Member Services Department (MSD).

@Adam Meade has left his role as TGM and moved into his new role as a Member Services Assistant.

@Nick Marinov has also left his TGM role and has now moved into his new role at VATSIM Region as VATEUR 2 - Deputy Region Director.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank Adam for his work in training over the past year and Nick for his work ethic and continued contribution to the TD for... well, I can't even remember how long!

For the past few months @James Yuen has assisted @Oliver Gates in running TG1 until we advertised for a new TGI. I cannot thank James enough for offering to help very shortly after he left his role as TGI for TG Heathrow, he has been key to lightening the load which has allowed us to continue with the pace we have in Training. We have an opportunity for another member of the community to join the team as a Training Group Instructor shortly, so keep your eyes peeled on the forum

Pilot Training:

The role of Pilot Administrative Manager has now been removed as a result of the introduction of the MSD.

@Matthew Wilson has now joined the MSD in his new role as a Member Services Assistant. Matthew shall remain as the Initial Flight Training Instructor for the time being due to recent changes in the launch date of the new Pilot Ratings (separate post to come later this week).

After just over 2 years as the VFR Flight Instructor @Lewis Hammett will be leaving the Training Team. I cannot begin to explain - if an explanation is even necessary - how devoted Lewis has been to our Division's Pilot Training over the past two years, and how much Lewis has helped to motivate and engage our students and mentors. Lewis has agreed (for a small ransom ?) to continue developing the new Pilot Ratings and stay as a mentor and examiner.

The role of VFR Flight Instructor will be open for applications mid to late May.

@Tom Sirett will be leaving his post as General Manager of Pilot Training. Over the past few months Tom has decided that the role isn't really for him and has decided to step back from staff. Tom has been a part of the UK's Pilot Training for over 2 years where he made significant contributions to our Flight Training Exercise system during its development ad in general helped to keep me sane!

The role of General Manager of Pilot Training will be open for applications in the coming weeks.

I've already said it about a thousands times but I cannot express my thanks to all of the staff members that are leaving us. I knew that moving into the role of Training Director would allow me to work with more of our staff team, but I could not have imagined the amazing team that I was moving into.

With all of these changes there is going to be some great opportunities for new members to get involved in the staff team. As always, if anyone has any questions, comments or concerns, please come and talk to us!

Thanks,

Dan ✈️

To echo Dan, a massive thank you to all those who have (and those who still are!) given/giving up their time as staff members, none of what we do on VATSIM would be possible without you.
