Training Evenings

All,

Whilst students at busier aerodromes such as Manchester and Gatwick regularly enjoy busy traffic scenarios to perfect their skills, those training on quieter positions often struggle to attract enough traffic to make their online time worthwhile.

To combat this, we're pleased to introduce Training Evenings - designated events for pairs of quieter training aerodromes. Each week will see an event at one of the following pairs of aerodromes:

  • Edinburgh (EGPH) & Glasgow (EGPF);
  • Birmingham (EGBB) & Bristol (EGGD);
  • Luton (EGGW) & Stansted (EGSS).

The first of (hopefully) many training evenings will be this Friday 6th September, from 17:00z-20:00z, at Edinburgh (EGPH) and Glasgow (EGPF) - please come and join us if you can!

I think it could be useful to publish some preferred pre-file IFR flightplan routes between these training airports prior to the day so that they can be properly planned by pilots who will be flying the inevitable IFR loops in a 737/A320. They will then be situated properly for approach vectors/holds otherwise all the flightplans will probably just be filed as EGPH DCT EGPF which causes more unnecessary work for the controllers having to hand the SIDs/Routes out on the "fly" and vector the traffic.

A "heads up" for VFR pilots on the most likely VRPs that will be used (ie. Baillieston / Bathgate) and if the entry/exits will be used at Edinburgh, just so pilots can prepare/familiarise themselves with where these VRPs and traffic lanes on their scenery before flying. I know some people would say "But if you're gonna fly VFR you should know the VRPs"...  but we don't live in an ideal world and I think you'd get more VFR traffic and less problems if people know what to expect and can fly around beforehand to practice spotting the VRPs on their own scenery.  -- I do have a VFR map for this area so if anyone wants the hi-res version of this https://prnt.sc/p0n1e1 give me a shout.

It's the 7 P's.... Prior Proper Planning Prevents Pish-Poor Pilots ?
