Changes to the Manchester Familiarisation Sessions and Gatwick Endorsement

Hi all,

Over the past couple of months, me and Josh have spoken to mentors and students to see what could be improved in regards to S1 continuation training. The most common things that cropped up were that the Manchester Familiarisation Sessions weren't getting used to their full and proper potential, and that the Gatwick Endorsement was not properly training people. Here are the changes that we have made;

Manchester Familiarisation: As some of you may be aware, TG New Controller, along with the Training Department has decided to cease the continuation of Manchester Familiarisation Sessions. There are a few reasons why we are removing them, however, after speaking to mentors and students, it was clear that there was a lack of interest from students and that it was a waste of mentors' time as well as a waste of valuable resources.

Gatwick Endorsement: The Gatwick Endorsement will stay however there will be a change to it. Rather than having one session, students will now have unlimited sessions to get their endorsement. This was down to looking at feedback over the last couple of months from students & mentors and also, it will benefit future Gatwick controllers by further improving their competency and allowing them to practise more.
These changes are effective immediately.

Thanks,
Fergus & Josh

The change for Gatwick should have been done a long time ago and I'm glad to see this change has now been made. Excellent decision!

Agreed, great decisions although Manchester at the end of the day is just as complicated and busy as Gatwick is nowadays. Is a validation for Manchester ever going to be a thing?

Hi Andrew, we have considered the idea of implementing a Manchester validation but we have to be sure that we have the recourses to facilitate the sessions for those validations so students aren't waiting for long periods of time, and at the moment we can't warrant a validation as it would 'clog' the system. It is something with we are potentially open to though in the future.
