Introducing Training Tuesdays

Dear all,

In conjunction with the Pilot Training team, I am very pleased to announce the introduction of Training Tuesdays.

One of the biggest difficulties that the ATC Training Department face is generating enough traffic to make training viable on the live network, which in turn leads to mentors attempting to use Sweatbox more to generate traffic to train students. The vicious circle develops itself by pilots then seeing a lack of air traffic online in the UK and instead flying elsewhere. Conversely, although less of an issue, the Pilot Training team require ATC to be online in certain circumstances to undertake pilot training and examinations. As a result, we’ve come together to promote the idea of Training Tuesdays.

The purpose is very simple – ATC and Pilot training sessions are encouraged to take place on Tuesdays, to maximise the availability of traffic and service within our airspace. Hopefully, this will offer a more conjoined approach to our own training programmes, whilst also maximising the presence of other ATS providers and pilots from outside the division. James and I are confident that this will facilitate a more expedient training process for student controllers and pilots alike.

We must, however, make clear that this isn’t a substitute – training is still encouraged on any day of the week and students must not be made to have a reduction in access to training if they don’t have availability on Tuesdays. Access to training is a right through membership of the network – we’re just hopeful that we can make better use of it through the organisation of this!

As this isn’t an ‘event’ as such, there’s no requirement to request permission to mentor on Tuesdays, unless of course an event happens to be taking place on a Tuesday, and all of the usual session booking rules apply.

Get mentoring!

Sounds great! Will be good to see the UK and Scotland better staffed on one of the ,currently, days that are quiet since it lacks both  the pilots because of the  ATC. This should provide a great advantage for mentoring also because now we may actually get trfc in sessions :P Great idea Adam!
