This is already implemented. I'm sure further features will be promulgated as time goes on and development continues. 

What is the lowest internet speed required? Has it been tested with 1-3 Mbps?

You will hear 2 pilots talk over 1 another on frequency IRL. You will hear the blocking tone with the occasional legible word here and there.

I would assume the same speed as before...

Although new voice has slightly higher bandwidth requirements we are still talking only a marginal amount that would only be noticeable if we were still on dial up modems.  1Mbps is still plenty overkill.

As Fraser mentions - in real life you can talk over another transmission as heard in the video. This is exactly why aviation radios are AM and not FM: if they were FM then the selectivity of FM receivers means it would indeed be 'strongest signal wins' and you'd only hear one person at a time.

This would be bad, because it would mean an open mic could block the whole frequency, or a crossed transmission would block out an instruction (possibly to another aircraft) entirely and there would be no indication to anybody that the transmission had been blocked. That, as you can imagine, would be a Bad Thing (and on VATSIM would we really want a situation where someone with a stuck PTT could prevent anyone else from transmitting?)

The use of AM means that at least someone will be aware of blocked transmissions and it might even be intelligible to the intended recipient depending on how close they are to the transmitter.

The average audio upload bitrate is I think about 8kib/s at the moment, which is less than most Teamspeak or Discord situations.
