We are pleased to announce the release of our Military Precision Approach Radar (PAR) Online Moodle Course. This course is for those members that want to take their Military Approach controlling up a notch, offering pilots the opportunity to be talked all the way down the final approach (similar to a SRA), with vectors and glideslope information. A massive thank you to Trevor Hannant and Callum Presley for creating this course for us.

The course is open for all members to view and self-enrol. Members who hold a Military Approach Validation may request to have the exam enabled via a ticket to the helpdesk. The validation will be granted when the member has passed the exam.

In order to control Military PAR positions, controllers will need to download the vPAR Controller Client which is accompanied by a manual. Pilots wishing to receive this service need to download the vPAR Pilot Transponder to be seen by the controllers.

We are very grateful to Michael Oxner, the author of the vPAR system, who has kindly granted us permission to host the files on our website for the membership to enjoy for non-profit purposes.

The Military AIP, which contains all the charts and information for UK Military Aerodromes, is available from the AIDU.

Thanks Connor - interestingly they didn't tell us that when they communicated other changes to AIDU...

very interesting, having flown real world PAR's at RAF Shawbury many years ago during instrument training  will probably give it a go sometime and see how the  Euroscope version handles it. I know it takes a lot of practice for pilots to get used to flying on glide path  profiles etc without reference to any instruments and depending on the controller to 'talk you down 'to the runway threshold. Originally called GCA approaches and the controller sat in a little cabin alongside the runway to talk the pilots down!,

Brilliant Jim, unfortunately my RW experience is limited to being stood/sat a few miles up the road at Lossie watching and listening as they're being carried out.

The app doesn't actually run in ES, it's a separate .exe that you run (without install) that returns positional data far quicker than ED's 5 second refresh rate (not good if you're hurtling down the glidepath at 180kts!).  The guide in the Downloads section has more information on this but feel free to grab me if you need anything when you've got your Mil APP and PAR validations and go to give it a bash.  Happy to provide the aircraft for you also...
