Area Training requirements

Dear all,

This post is to clarify two basic requirements for S3 students who want to start their C1 training. These requirements have been in place for many years (but haven't always been followed and it seems they've been forgotten). In order to be eligible to begin training on any CTR position with us you must comply with both of the following requirements:

  1. Must have controlled at least 12 hours on any APP position in the UK in the last 3 months. This is to ensure you are actively practicing your skills which will be needed during your CTR training.
  2. Must have accrued at least 10 post-S3 hours on each of the main APP positions in the sector you wish to train on. This is to ensure that you have done the background learning required for the airspace involved and that you are comfortable handling these airports top-down without expending too much brain power on them. You'll need all of your available brain power for CTR training. The required airports are:
  • Scottish - PF, PH, PD, AA
  • North - CC, GP, NM, NT
  • Central - ESSEX, BB, NX
  • South - LL, KK, THAMES, SOLENT

There is a waiting list for area training but currently there is nobody who meets these requirements on the list. Places will be allocated to students according to the order they entered the list AND who meets the requirements. If you don't meet these requirements you're going to keep getting skipped out in favour of those who do.

Further to this,

If you are wanting to train on Area Control, please tell me when you meet the minimum hours requirements on the underlying positions (point 2 above) otherwise I'll keep ignoring you when I allocate places. There's too many people on the list for me to check everyone's total hours on each position.

Thanks
