LON_N_CTR | Saturday 28th January | 1800z

There will be an exam on London AC North (LON_N_CTR) on the 28Th January (Saturday), commencing at 1800z. The exam is expected to last 2 hours but the exam may end earlier/later, depending on whether the competencies have been sufficiently assessed. We require plenty of traffic and plenty of supporting ATC cover to allow us to focus on the area competencies.

For pilots - AC North covers the red area below. Some examples of traffic entering this airspace include but not limited too:

  • Arrivals to Manchester and Liverpool coming from any direction
  • Newcastle traffic from the south
  • Dublin Arrivals (Routings that have BAGSO in)

Note: Flights to and from Doncaster Sheffield (ICAO EGCN), as per real world, this airport has now closed and this airspace is now not Londons’ jurisdiction to control aircraft into and out of there. If you are to depart from this field you will need to remain outside controlled airspace.

For those unfamiliar, low level serice to VFR traffic is much more an APP competency and not something we need to see for area exams. IFR traffic joining the ATS route structure from fields outside controlled airspace are potentially useful, however please only attempt this if you are experienced.

Please, no funny business without first speaking to LON_NX_CTR. Pilots wishing to fly to ensure that they are familiar with the pilot guidance for ATC exams.

Good luck to the candidate!

Please join me on congratulating @Darren Hill on successfully passing his C1 exam with a good result.

Thank you to all the pilots that flew to help make the exam a success, and thank you to all the surrounding ATC that came and helped as well!

Enjoy your new rating!
