Hi all,

I am pleased to be able to announce the release of the vNAAATS open beta version 1.3b2. This version features numerous improvements to performance and stability as well as extra features and bug fixes.

Full changelog (original beta release, please see subsequent hotfixes 1 & 2 for additional information): https://github.com/vNAAATS/vatsim-NAAATS/releases/tag/v1.3b
To use vNAAATS, please download the GNG package here: http://files.aero-nav.com/EXCXO. Simply drop the extracted folder anywhere you like and open the .prf file.

I understand that vNAAATS may be an unfamiliar tool to many of you, so I have written a short introduction about what vNAAATS is and how it can make your life easier as an oceanic controller:

The Virtual North Atlantic Advanced Air Traffic System (or vNAAATS) is inspired by the Gander Advanced Air Traffic System + (GAATS+) HMI installed IRL at Gander and Prestwick. vNAAATS has been in development for over a year and in that time we have seen our fair share of drawbacks, but development has increased over the last several months, primarily targeting the persistent performance and stability issues reported over the course of the plugin's deployment and reducing the amount of non functional UI.

The plugin aims to replicate many of the features found on the GAATS+ software with a VATSIM flair. On top of its numerous quality-of-life features such as custom conflict tools and alerts, smart filtering mechanics, and a custom ruler, the plugin provides a solution for the problem of assigning data to tags that the controller does not own by utilising a custom network, storing aircraft profiles and clearance data which are synced to all other online plugin users.

In addition to the plugin, a Flight Data Display (FDD) replicating the one found on GAATS+ has been in development and is included as a feature of this update. The FDD serves information submitted to the network in 'strip' form, rendering live within your web browser in real time as data is updated via the plugin, and displays any natTrak clearance data that a particular aircraft may have. Domestic and adjacent oceanic sectors can make use of the FDD as I have left it public for the benefit of our neighbours who often rely on this information. At this current time, I am aware of some potential UI scaling issues which can be worked-around for now by using your browser's scroll feature.

Features to come include sorting and filtering of strips and a 'pending' list of provisional natTrak clearances.

I invite every oceanic controller to check out the plugin and make use of the added functionality not provided by vanilla Euroscope. Optimising and improving the oceanic control experience on VATSIM has been my desire for a long time and I hope that you find this to be enjoyable and realistic.

Feedback is always welcome, so I have set up a discord server so that people can quickly receive the help and advice they need.

Please also find attached an oceanic clearance 'how to' through vNAAATS guide kindly written by David Solesvik. We are working on updating the manual, so in the meantime don't hesitate to reach out.

Cheers,

Andrew

The following Oceanic Controller Packs are available:
      1. Combined Shanwick and Gander Oceanic Controller Pack published by the AeroNav association:
vNAAATS plugin integration (other than for CTP Westbound 2021) Utilises GNG system to keep sectors and frequencies updated. Download link: http://files.aero-nav.com/EXCXO

      2. Shanwick Oceanic (EGGX) Controller Pack published by the VATSIM UK Operations Department:
Intended as a stable alternative for controllers familiar with the domestic UK Controller Pack Can also be used to control Gander Oceanic positions Vanilla EuroScope (no vNAAATS plugin) Tag family similar to domestic "AC" tag family which simulates display of ADS-B data UKCP plugin enables display of clearances from natTRAK website in 'Sector Inbound List' All adjacent sectors and frequencies updated to match latest release of 'Oceanic Control Procedures' document

Self-contained Shanwick Oceanic controller pack based on the UK Controller Pack.
Vanilla EuroScope (no vNAAATS plugin) Tag family similar to domestic "AC" tag family simulates display of ADS-B data UKCP plugin enables display of clearances from natTRAK website Sector Ownership set automatically Also contains profiles for Gander Oceanic positions. A new oceanic spreadhseet which integrates with the natTRAK website is also available, simply click the refresh button to sync clearances/requests from natTRAK. This should make it easier to identify conflicts between clearances issued manually and those issued via natTRAK. (For CTP, clearances will be issued via natTRAK so this spreadsheet is designed primarily to be used outside of CTP/as a backup).

      Background
Previously, Shanwick and Gander positions covered both Oceanic Control Areas (OCAs) reciprocally, which meant that, for example Shanwick Radio would cover the Gander OCA with Gander offline. Controllers could also choose to not cover the other OCA and limit control to their own sector. This regularly caused confusion with pilots and adjacent controllers.
      North Atlantic Bandbox
Shanwick and Gander form part of the The North Atlantic (NAT) Region.  A new position (NAT_FSS) covers both OCAs when the individual sectors are offline whereas Shanwick (EGGX) and Gander (CZQX) positions only cover their respective OCAs.
Endorsement: As NAT_FSS encompasses positions that both require a 'special center' endorsement, an endorsement for either Shanwick or Gander is required to control the position.
RTF Callsign: Controllers shall use the appropriate callsign for either Shanwick or Gander, depending on the aircraft's location. Refer to Oceanic Control Procedures for the correct callsign.

      Changes to Shanwick Logon Convention
Due to the reduction in required visibility range for Shanwick, the use of the "FSS" suffix is replaced by "CTR" for all Shanwick Oceanic positions. This reduces lag in EuroScope and load on the VATSIM servers. The Shanwick Controller Pack has been updated to reflect this.
Note: Mulitple visibility points have been defined for Shanwick positions to achieve an optimal visibility area, use caution when modifying the default visibility points used in the controller packs. Event splitting positions have a smaller range as they are not required to perform the ORCA function.

      Changes to Gander Logon Convention
To avoid potential confusion with Gander Domestic, Gander Oceanic have adopted the ICAO code CZQO for all positions.
Due to the reduction in required visibility range for Gander, the use of the "FSS" suffix is replaced by "CTR" for all Gander Oceanic positions. This reduces lag in EuroScope and load on the VATSIM servers. The Shanwick Controller Pack has been updated to reflect this.

      Background
Previously, the Gander Oceanic Transition Area was not implemented on VATSIM and Gander Oceanic covered this area at all levels.
Gander (Domestic) Sectorisation FL290 and Above
Gander Domestic provides a radar service to aircraft in the GOTA at FL290 and above. Gander Oceanic covers this airspace below FL290 using procedures outlined in Oceanic Control Procedures.
Note: Refer to the latest version (2021/04) of Oceanic Control Procedures for frequency allocation and top-down coverage order.
