feedback Possible removal of CTS requirement

Recommended Posts

Harry Cameron

Hi,

I was trying to book a session on Gatwick Tower today for after a mentoring session while I was controlling it but the CTS gave me an error (https://prnt.sc/iqqkgw) saying that I am currently logged on to the position and must only book from the present to "make it fair for everyone". Is it possible that this could be removed as it is quite a pain and I see no point in having it.

Thanks

Harry,

As outlined in Slack (and to provide context publicly) these restrictions were put in place to avoid members securing a single position for a length of time.

Whilst the technicailities might've changed slightly since my departure, the initial implementation was such that:

(a) if you are currently on the position, nobody can take it off you for a minimum of two hours.  This was to combat a common situation whereby people were booking positions that were occupied, and then claiming that Division Policy gives them priority because bookings pull rank;

(b) if you aren't on the position, but the position is occupied and you'd like to book it, you can only book from two hours ahead;

(c) when you make a booking, it won't allow obscene amounts of time to be booked.

Whilst I appreciate that in your situation, you wanted to book KK_TWR so that you could take over beyond the mentoring session, in effect you're trying to block book a (fairly primary) position for quite a lengthy period of time - the exact thing the implementation tried to prevent.  It only takes a few minutes to update, so if when you log off, it's still available, you're free to book it.  Additionally, when the mentor and student take over, the position will still be locked for another 2 hours, so you could arrange to take over from them once they've finished.

I can confirm that there has been no changes to the logic that would affect the functionality Ant describes since it was implemented.

Interested to see how this thread pans out, will keep an eye on it.

It's almost like you expect there to be a discussion; I don't see the need for one? There have been rules established in order to preserve peoples enjoyment of the network, the rules have clearly been thought out and in lpace for some time... I don't see a requirement or catalyst for change ...

Me neither. Which is why I was interested to see how it panned out...
It panned out as nothing. Which means, at least for now, there will be no change.

I'm sure if I had replied with "there's no need for change" then someone would have shot me down for that...

      Keen to follow real world ops and wondering why on Vatsim, EGLL has been doing dual runway ops lately when in real world they are doing singles, at least whenever I have been flying that's the case.

      I am assuming because Vatsim is ironically busier than real life at the moment, but curious to know for sure.

      Cheers, stay safe

      I have got to pass on my thanks to all the controllers on tonight's Gatwick Midweek Madness. I have only been using Vatsim for a couple of weeks but I am absolutely blown away by the professionalism of everyone, especially the ATC. I thought I would take a quick flight from EGCC to EGKK on N390GM but diverted off the EGKA when I heard there was a 50 minute delay. I could see how incredibly busy the airway was as I flew underneath everyone so I quickly bowed out before my inexperience showed itself. Well done all.

      I was flying through London airspace on a few legs this evening and ended up on @Matthew Burton's control frequency a few times. He was on the ball the whole time despite the airspace being continuously busy. Was thoroughly impressed!

      some MORE FLIGHT TRAINING EXCERCISES IN THE NORTH OF ENGLAND / SCOTLAND WOULD BE AMAZING TO BE USED WITH THE THE ORBX TRUE EARTH SCENERY.

      Are there any new ones in the pipeline ?

      New to the controller plugin, and I am assuming this is from it. However, The QNH they sent is for another airport. I am only working and only have active Manchester.
